Lavender Vanilla Bean French Beignets

Savor the delightful flavors of vanilla and lavender with these fluffy, crispy French beignets. Suitable for any time as a sweet treat or for breakfast

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender buds
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

Mix the flour, sugar, salt, vanilla bean seeds, and lavender buds in a mixing bowl

Add warm water to a separate bowl and dissolve the yeast

Until frothy, let it sit for five minutes

To the dry ingredients, add the milk, egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture

Stir to form a dough

On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until its smooth

Cover and let it rise for one to two hours

Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch, then cut into rounds or squares

In a deep pan, heat the vegetable oil to 350F 175C

Fry, turning once, until the beignets are golden brown

While still warm, drain on paper towels and sprinkle with powdered sugar
